Grateful Dead Live at Madison Square Garden on 1988-09-19 (September 19, 1988).

I have listened to what seems like hundreds of China Doll's over the past few months.

This was one of my favorites.

I was looking for an earlier version, but you feel the emotion of the song much better with the '88 Garcia vocals.

also, fun versions of Quinn and Dire Wolf.

ahhhhh the great 1988 run at Msg. Do you remember the giant
KIng Kong with the tye-dye shirt outside??
I made all the shows except for the last night 9-24.
Jerry voice is shot in that one!! Jerry voice is pure sweetness on China Doll. I have the whole run in mp3 format
and return to 9-19 often nice LIG on that show too!
JUst a little nervous from the fall!!!

I love china doll as well. Do you prefer it pre drums or post space?

post space. 6-16-90 was probably the best that I personally witnessed. My over all preference is 73 versions like 2-15-73.

Probably pre drums, but my favorite version in person was post drums, up at Kingswood Th outside of Toronto. I will remember that China Doll into Mr Fantasy for as long as I live. The interaction between Jerry and Brent during Fantasy was something special.

Another nice version is:

Grateful Dead Live at Richmond Coliseum on 1985-11-02 (November 2, 1985)

It follows Uncle John's Band, then into D/S, and right into a solid Dew. That enough Jerry for you?

A classic 2nd set.

I saw a few Playin>china doll's before drums but I do love the idea of UJB>china. I have seem that combo listed a few times over the years and wished they'd done it more.
